When I research topics I often look at slyly hidden archives. I found these images stored in the Library of Congress archives. These pictures were drawn by a prisoner in Maryland during the Civil War. If you had a public school education, like me, you probably thought "Black" soldiers were not armed. But these images not only show them guarding Rebel soldiers but also refer to them as #sentinels. I wonder if Dane Calloway has seen these.
